Tauck Adds Costa Rica Itineraries to 2016 Portfolio of BBC Earth Trips

“Earth Journeys” Trips Enhanced with Exclusive BBC Earth Content Offered in Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America and Antarctica

NORWALK, CT (June 10, 2015)  For 2016 Tauck is expanding the breadth of its “Earth Journeys” partnership with the award-winning nature documentary filmmakers at BBC Earth to include its three trips exploring Costa Rica.  Each of the three itineraries will be enhanced with exclusive content provided through the BBC Earth partnership, and the trio of Costa Rica trips join over a dozen other Earth Journeys itineraries already operating in Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America and Antarctica.

Tauck’s three Costa Rica itineraries are its eight-day “Costa Rica Adventure,” an eight-day “Costa Rica: Jungles & Rainforests” Tauck Bridges family trip, and the 11-day “Panama Canal & Costa Rica” land/cruise journey.  The latter begins with a two-night hotel stay with guided sightseeing in San Jose, Costa Rica, followed by a six-night cruise aboard the M/V Tere Moana that includes a transit of the Panama Canal, concluding with an additional two-night hotel stay with guided sightseeing in Panama City, Panama.

Beginning next year, each of Tauck’s Costa Rica itineraries will feature a number of original, exclusive films by BBC Earth that Tauck guests will view on location. These brief (approximately 10 – 20 minutes) vignettes will utilize BBC Earth’s incredible resources, including the world’s largest collection of nature film footage, plus insights and voiceovers from BBC Earth experts.  The resulting films will provide Tauck guests with added context and fresh perspective on the animal life and natural wonders they’ll experience during their travels in Costa Rica.

Tauck Directors accompanying the Costa Rica itineraries will also guide guests as they use some of the same cutting-edge technologies employed by BBC Earth filmmakers in the making of their films.  These technologies will bring Tauck guests into more intimate contact with their surroundings, and while the specific equipment for the Costa Rica itineraries is still being finalized, Tauck and BBC Earth have featured motion-activated camera traps, infrared night-vision cameras, long-range directional microphones, underwater cameras, and small fiber-optic endoscopic cameras on Earth Journeys exploring other parts of the world.  In addition, Tauck is also working directly with BBC Earth filmmakers and naturalists to add additional original content and programming to its Costa Rica itineraries.

Tauck and BBC Earth first announced their Earth Journeys partnership in late 2013, with exclusive BBC Earth content added to a number of existing Tauck itineraries the following year.  This year Tauck has brought BBC Earth content to additional itineraries, and designed new Earth Journeys trips in cooperation with the filmmakers.  Bookings for the Earth Journeys trips have been strong, and of Tauck’s remaining 2015 Earth Journeys departures worldwide, 94% are either completely sold out or have just limited availability remaining.

ENHANCEMENTS, VALUE HIGHLIGHT TAUCK’S 2016 “EXOTICS” COLLECTION
Tauck’s three Costa Rica journeys are included in the company’s new 2016 Exotics brochure, featuring 32 Tauck journeys next year to Asia, Africa, Latin America, Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.  According to Tauck CEO Dan Mahar, the Costa Rica itineraries aren’t the only journeys in the new 148-page brochure that have seen significant enhancements.

“At Tauck we’re dedicated to constant improvement, and that philosophy is apparent across our 2016 Exotics collection,” said Mahar.  In Australia, for example, Mahar noted that three on-tour flights there are now aboard private charter aircraft exclusive to Tauck guests.  On the company’s “Essence of South America” itinerary, accommodations on eight of the trip’s 13 nights have been enhanced with either new hotel properties or upgrades to suites.  And on Tauck’s safari in Kenya and Tanzania, the itinerary has been reconfigured to provide an additional day to explore the nearly 600-square-mile Masai Mara Game Reserve.  Mahar added that Tauck has also worked hard to maintain pricing, with some 75% of all 2016 Exotics journeys seeing either a price reduction, identical pricing, or just a slight increase (3% or less) compared to 2015 levels.
